Way back in 2002, when I took the digital coloring class at SCAD taught by Durwin Talon, we did this exercise. Basically, Prof Talon had these this work sheet filled with repeating heads drawn from one of two art models. He would bring in these models and then light there heads and we would use a marker and draw the shadows. These have proven to be useful reference over the years when I've need some help creating interesting and accurate look shadows on characters faces.

Lines- Durwin Talon

Marker tones- me

P.S. if anyone else out there has done something similar to this, I encourage you to post them on DA and let me know about it so I can link to them.

Lol, yeah, he's awesome. Even though the last time I ran into him he didn't remember who I was. But that's understandable, I was in only one class he taught at SCAD around 10 years ago. How was he to know that class would lead to my career. :)
